Dreamers Must Become Doers

Updated: Jul 3, 2018

Dreaming is great. As a matter of fact, dreaming is the first step toward accomplishing great things. It's the birthing place of awesome ideas. But, it's just the beginning. The cemetery is filled with individuals who never got any further with their dreams than the initial idea.
Dreams are awesome, but what value do they hold if we aren't moving toward them. While the world indeed needs dreamers, more importantly it needs doers. The world needs dreamers to become doers.
I know that not every dream is God inspired, but many are. It's those dreams that need to be more than simply conceptual. Scripture tells us to be doers of the Word not just hearers only. God inspired dreams are those dreams that have been given to you by God. God has spoken and you have heard. It is not enough to hear. It is not enough the see the dream. One must also, step out to see the dream become a reality.
The dream is much like a seed. God plants it inside of you and He expects it to grow to maturity. You have a part to play and that part is not simply being inspired by a God idea. God wants to partner with you to see the dream become a reality.
Through the years, I've personally discovered a couple obstacles that I face when it comes to making my dreams a reality. The biggest thing is fear. Fear of how big it is and how small I am. Fear of failing taunts me constantly. The fear of whether I've heard from God or not. The fear of putting my dream out there and others rejecting me and my dream. Fear shows up in lots of different ways with the intention of keeping you from pursuing your dreams. Funny thing about fear though is that its bark is much worse than its bite. Much like a school yard bully who needs somebody to stand toe to toe with him, fear's only power is in its ability to intimidate. Don't let it bully you and cause you to shrink back. Go for it! Punch that bully in the nose and go for your dreams.
The other obstacle that I've been plagued with is just a spirit of passivity. I look at where I'm headed and what I've got to do to get there and it just makes me tired. Dreaming is the easy part. Making it happen is work. I've often leaned on the lie that I'm a creative type whose strength is in dreaming not in doing. The reality is that's just utter laziness. While the dream may feel like it's massive and is going to require a great amount of time and energy from you, begin with baby steps. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "how do you eat an elephant?" One bite at a time." That's exactly how to bring dreams to reality, one step at a time.
So, kick back, relax and dream a little today. Then write it down, get up and starting doing. Who knows, perhaps this time next year you'll find yourself a lot closer to living out your dream!
